Youth In Action
International opportunities for young people
Youth in action is all about giving young people the chance to do something social, exciting, and constructive abroad for up to a year. We send young people from the UK, and also host young people from abroad on volunteering projects with the European Union’s Youth In Action programme. This offers financial support for many international activities:
- Individual Volunteering.
The European Voluntary Service (EVS) gives the opportunity for
young people (18-30) to go to other countries for 6-12 months to work as volunteers. All travel,
language training, task related training and living expenses are included.
With over 4500 organisations participating in the network,
the range of projects is huge. For those with reduced
opportunities, Short-term volunteering of 2 weeks to 6 months may also be available. For more information about volunteering abroad

The UK National Agency
European EVS website (take a look at their FAQ) - Training and network building. Conferences, job shadowing, training courses, preliminary feasibility visits, etc. 70% of travel costs are paid and 100% of food and accommodation. These offer good opportunities for young people and youth workers to meet others and develop new skills.
We have partner organisations in most European countries. We regularly organise residential events here in Cornwall, and in other countries, where young people can make new friends and hopefully learn from new experiences.
- Youth Exchanges. Groups of young people,
travelling to other countries for activity projects. Anything from theatre or film-making to environmental work or human rights. They are normally one week to 10 days. Nearly everything is paid - 100% of accommodation, food, and activity costs are paid and 70% of travel - so a week away usually costs around
£80. The age limits are 13 to 30.
